w+d loves: PALOMARIE

readers, i’d like to introduce you to PALOMARIE, a freshly launched collaboration between two Texas-based designers. channeling their architectural sensibilities, the designers allow the industrial qualities of the materials shine in their debut collection. the result is simply gorgeous. check out the collection here, and their (highly additive) blog here.

in the studio: paul + danielle

paul and danielle are getting married at the mill city ruins (swoon) on halloween (so fun), and i couldn’t have been more inspired by what they have planned. danielle loved the idea of creating invitations inspired by vintage marquee signs and eclectic typography that referenced the 1920′s era. their color palette was mostly creams and light gray, with a pop of red-orange that will be incorporated through out the space. this color palette is seriously gorgeous.

i love that their invites feel eclectic and unique without becoming informal. the marquee sign references are subtle enough to allow for a vintage-meets-modern look. the tiny amount of orange goes a long way and i’m so glad we decided to incorporate a bit more color. their invites were printed by the fantastic evolutionary press on thick cotton paper. the texture is sooo delicious.

they should really bring these back

this adorable creation is the vespa 400, a micro car made in france from 1957-1961. with the resurgence of the fiat 500 here in america, i could only imagine how many people would be interested in these teeny tiny stylish cars. i’d love to bop around town in one.

my friend lauren…

… is getting married tomorrow! there couldn’t be a better time to share the invites i created for her and her fiance, matt.

lauren is the type of gal who isn’t afraid to express her quirky personality and i wanted her invitations to reflect the same. lauren is written all over these! she was really excited about collaborating with me and we had a great time putting these together. i’m not sure there’s a better compliment than hearing from so many people who love her, how very “lauren” these are.

best of luck tomorrow, you two. i wish you all the happiness in the world!

Bikes Make Life Better.

Don’t you agree? Here in Minneapolis, the #1 bike-friendly city in America, biking is more than a means of transportation; it’s part of many Minneapolitan’s lifestyle. I swapped my car for a bike about 3 years ago and haven’t looked back. Maybe it’s the endorphins, or the cool breeze on your skin, but few things feel as good as riding a bike.

That’s why this video by Minneapolis agency Colle + McVoy resonated with me. Created on a next-to-nothing budget for the non-profit Bikes Belong, the goal was to capture the joy and magic of riding a bike. Bold animated graphics are projected onto buildings and bridges as bikers ride through the city at dusk. It’s an optimistic, inspiring, and beautiful interpretation of the freedom a bicycle can bring.

Aled Lewis

i’m really enjoying Aled Lewis’ self initiated project Make Something 365. his series of vignettes using plastic toys and clever captions got me giggling this morning. read the interview with Lewis on my modern met and be sure to check out his behance page for more updates.
