a busy week…

readers. i promise i haven’t neglected this blog for eternity. i was completely incapacitated this week, trying to balance my work here and here. unfortunately, my personal life hasn’t given me much of break either. i hope to be back next monday with the energy to share some inspiring things… until then, have a lovely weekend.

the w+d wishlist: part II

my 2010 wish list for the home. i was all for clean lines, refurbished wood, gold accents, and mid-century inspired pieces. i’m hoping to acquire a few of these pieces next year!

gender neutral bedroom

since getting married, nick has been more vocal when i ask him about design changes happening in our home. the most recent discussion: nick’s distastes towards overtly feminine trimmings around the house. i’m not surprised to hear this and i don’t blame him. those pieces are part of my single days and i’m honestly excited to part with them. however, it seems pretty difficult to find home inspiration that fulfills both of our tastes. i was thrilled when i saw this bedroom. it seems to fit the bill.

a modern twist on navajo prints

navajo is a big trend for this fall in fashion. i’m happy to see it happening in interiors as well, i don’t think there could be a more perfect pairing than a navajo rug with a modern sofa, or vice versa.

sofa from wisteria, dakota pillow from rouge durhin, illusion lamp from digs showroom, dot bowl from jayson home & garden, pendleton buckle bag from blackbird, navajo print tunic from urban outfitters, equilateral necklace from need supply co., additional images via apartment therapy, anthropologie chairs via love & folly

lust: hay prince chair

Isn’t this chair stunning? i prefer it in white, but the black would make a beautiful graphic statement in a room.

flatware from anthro

anthropologie has some really nice flatware right now. i’m thinking of adding the bronze set to our registry. i love the simple lines and bronze feels like it could go formal or casual depending on the table setting.

a special wedding gift

i’m heading to my grandparents house tonight to pick up a very special wedding present… two bertoia diamond lounge chairs that my grandparents bought in the 60′s. i was obsessed with them as a child, and that love was validated when i went to design school and fell head over heels with mid-century furniture. i have no doubt that they’ll be well loved in our home!

if you spent last weekend with me…

…you’d be looking at someone like this: unruly hair, no trace of make up, and very roomy clothing. after the craziness of past few week(end)s- being this undone felt like total bliss. anyone else slip into a coma-like state of relaxation as soon as they visit their childhood home?

white to ivory, and all shades between

i can’t get enough of these tranquil images. using shades of white and ivory aren’t just a trend for interiors, you can find the soft shades used everywhere from printing techniques, to identity systems, to couture fashion.

lounging

how comfy does this leather couch look? i’ve been eying couches for the past few months, as nick and i both loath the one we have. it’s nearly impossible for two people to comfortably cuddle without removing all of the cushions. it must go!

living in yellow

let me preface with this: i am one of shala monroque’s biggest fans. she’s tailored and sharp and takes the perfect amount of risk with accessories, hemlines, and trendiness. i adore her. i also adore her mui mui skirt and i’ve blogged about it before.

this picture of shala came to mind again this weekend as i began to think about ways to spruce up my bedroom. i want to add a pop of color against the new neutral bedding i registered for and i want the room to feel modern, a little glamorous and by no means over the top. and then i found this picture and realized i love these two images for the exact same reason; they strike the perfect balance between color, classic lines and modern styling. and that color yellow is just so gorgeous.

people think i’m crazy…

… when i tell them we’ve been collecting mismatched china for our wedding in october. i hear things like “so.. the plates are NOT going to match?” and “isn’t that a huge pain in the ass?”. and i politely answer those questions with “yes and yes”.

but look at this —>

makes all the trouble seem totally worth it, right? i found these images at lanalou, a blog i discovered on city sage last night. be sure to check out the rest of the image set over at lanalou, her blog is amazing!

spring cookbook lust list

My wish list goes something like this:…Great British Food for its delightfully witty writing and quirky design …Olives and Oranges for delicious vegetarian meals…Coco for the star-studded line up of chefs and outrageously trendy recipes…i love macarons so i can learn how to make my own. i’m afraid i will be a little crabby once Lucia’s doesn’t offer them daily!

i’m a little embarrassed to say that i haven’t cooked much from my newest cookbook; a beautiful copy of i know how to cook that i received from my little sister for christmas. i did however piece together my very own mac & cheese recipe using their bechamel sauce! i am sure i will get more use out of it once our csa deliveries start in a month. we’re also courting with the idea of using this butcher after we get two incomes rolling through the door. it’s a possibility that we could be eating 99% local this summer! if anyone has a favorite recipe from i know how to cook let me know. i think the sheer size of the book is intimidating to me.

(some extra spreads from Great British Food below)

embroidered art + pretty bedding

it seems like an unlikely combo, but Rachel Castle makes it feel like a natural fit at her shop. i was only familiar with Castle after coming across their adorable polka dot bedding months ago. i was delighted and impressed when i saw her artwork!
